WA Health Minister Roger Cook announced funding to address the alarming rate of suicide in men in farming communities, and to develop a State-wide Men’s Health and Wellbeing Policy.
The Minister made the announcement at Graylands Hospital’s Men’s Health Festival as part of International Men’s Health Week.
The WA Government is providing mental health and wellbeing education for men in regional and remote farming communities, who are identified as a priority population under the State-wide suicide prevention strategy, Suicide Prevention 2020: Together we can save lives.
The Mental Health Commission has awarded $310,000 in support of the Regional Men’s Health Initiative.
The WA Men’s Health and Wellbeing Policy is a Government election commitment and will be informed by the National Male Health Policy, focusing on physical health, mental health and wellbeing for men. A total of $120,000 has been allocated to develop the policy.
